The game opened with the group on an extradimensional plane of some sort. They were assaulted by Cyclops – creatures of fantasy that may or may not have ever existed. The few stories people have of them imply that they are thugs, though, while these were using some sort of maybe-magic to hold the extradimensional space together.
Upon escaping, the group ‘woke up’ to discover that the entire experience had apparently lasted only a few seconds. From the perspective of their mentor Usus, they were ready to go to training, were asked if they were ready, and collectively collapsed. It was confirmed that this was definitely not an enchantment or illusion spell, or if it was it was one of such power that it’s nonsensical. Still, it was a shared ‘hallucination’ and was certainly real on some level, so there’s definitely something more to it.
Also the group’s armour was missing at some point?
Anyway, the group then stepped into training – they only have about a week before the qualifiers, and Usus has a lot he’d like the school-to-be to get done! The group found themselves in an arena match that was sculpted with another of Usus’ tricks – a ‘golem’ stepped out, first acting sluggish – then speeding up once the battle began in earnest. It had unusual tricks – phasing through the earth, magnetism, and then a powerful energy attack.
It turned out that the energy attack was the focus of Usus’ trick this time around – the area away from the platforms had some form of alchemy therein that resonated with runes on the ‘golem’ – by stepping away from the platform, the group ended up with enough of whatever it was to enable to golem to target them with both magnetism and the energy assault.
Kaladriel managed to ruin the runes directly, which made the golem much more simple to deal with. The group then swiftly dismantled it.
The run concluded with the group discovering, as some had guessed beforehand, that there was a creature within the golem – a gnome, it turns out.
(Technically, the armour was not given as of this run and will come early next run. But for the sake of expediency, the PCs can put it on their sheets as of now)
