On Borrowed Time
Backstory and Regional Information

In the wake of the Great War, schools participate in The Games, traveling from region to region.
Will you be the one to return hope to a land which so desperately is trying to survive?
The initial focus of the game will be on The Games – a series of battles against other schools. Of course, this will come with a healthy amount of intrigue, exploration, and discovery.
The game will be story-driven, although my goal is for each run to be itself self-contained with tastes of the larger plot overhead. It will be linear at first, and expand as the game goes on.
More information about the game’s backstory will come here after the initial Pitch – I find that experiencing the Pitch is helpful!
The first game will be on Tuesday, June 7th, 2016, at 6:30pm at Armchair adventurer. Hope to see you there!
The Continent is called Inkaba, which is a tongue older than the oldest runes of Nordaugh, older than the ruins within the Steppes. Sometimes it is shortened to ‘Kaba’ as a kind of slang.
There are a small handful of islands to the north and east, but it is otherwise the only land mass in the world. It is within Inkaba that the Five Nations dwell, and you are from one of the four listed below.
Travel between the regions is… restricted, but not impossible. For most people, you simply need papers stating your reason for travel, and to check in at each border. For those who participate in the games (Such as you), your school needs to complete the Talisman battles and obtain their Talisman of travel for a particular reason, which essentially gives you permission to travel about that region.
Below is information for the five regions. It is requested that the majority of people be from either Nordaugh or Imperia – so if you can’t decide or don’t have a strong opinion, be from one of those two lands (Or alternately, have originally been from another land, but live in Nordaugh/Imperia now). The school itself will begin the games in one of those two locations.
Nordaugh – A wild land. The barbarians that live there are known for their might.
Be strong like bear
Be cunning like wolf
Quick Description: The northernmost of the nations, this frigid, heavily forested land is home to much of the world’s remaining fantastical creatures. The barbarians, under King Orin III, are known for transforming into beasts while otherwise fighting with might. While definitely a united land, Nordaugh is much more individualistic than its warmer counterparts.
Imperia – Probably the strongest empire in the world. Expansive and potent.
Unity is Empire
From tactics comes glory
Quick Description: Central Imperia is traditionally the most warlike of the nations, and also the most powerful: Only Nordaugh has withstood the imperial army. The lands of Imperia are temperate, and the farmers find it easy to support a large population. Imperia loves its Emperor, and The Games originated from here. There are many laws and a strong system of government that governs these people.
The Windward Steppes – A nomad’s realm, with homage to no land. Not the safest of places.
Fight smart, not hard
The well placed shot topples mountains
Quick Description: The Windward Steppes have been explored by Imperia – but they found no army to challenge. The enormous expanse is full of nomads, who travel from place to place along with the herds – with very few firm settlements. The openness and transitory nature of the population also means that criminals and ne’er-do-wells will flee to the Steppes – and start a new life mingling with the locals. Everyone else, thus, keeps one hand to their satchel when meeting someone from the Steppes.
The Southern Expanse – The desert kingdom with many gems of talent. Tends to keep to itself.
The centrepiece is talent
Unravel life’s mysteries
Quick Description: The Southern Expanse is a very harsh land, but the local denizens there thrive in the face of adversity, even as the desert seems to have a life of its own. While historically conquered by Imperia, they retained much of their traditions – especially that of pride. Training for the games is very harsh, and the games themselves are quite harsh, but that is the way of the sands – and of Queen Ibliis, the unquestioned ruler. Her word is law.
The Fifth Kingdom – Where the War God resides. Not much is known about what nation used to be there, or really anything about it.
(You cannot be from the Fifth Kingdom, as you’d be dead if that was the case).
